Girly Flower Headband
I made this headband for Zana. The flower is hand sewn! The fabric is a fun flannel backed satin. I cut out each flower and then sewed them layer by layer all by hand. ( my granny would be very impressed)

First skirt attempt
The skirt inside out.
I bought some really cute material to make Zana a Easter skirt, BUT before I made it with the nice material I bought some cheap "test" material. It turned out OK. It is a little big despite shortening the elastic and taking in twice. Good to know that I need another 1/2" off the elastic and 1/2" off each side. Practice makes perfect right?!?!?!
Don't mind her huge dirty white shirt. :D
With all that said I am very pleased with how well the inside turned out though!

Pants for Ewan, can you believe it?!?!
The completed outfit!
I finally finished Ewan's pants. I thought the best way to showcase them was to have my little man model them himself. These were fun to make and I LOVE the material. Don't mind the polar bear shirt, I could not wait to try them on polar bear shirt and all. I am making a cute shirt to go with these pants.

All these babies!
I have another friend who is having a boy so I sewed up this nursing cover. I am going to make her some baby shoes with the left over material too. Don't look at the gross faux wood-paneling in the background of my sewing room. Hopefully this summer we will get a new basement and rid of the faux paneling.
* In progress is a skirt for Zana and some pants for Ewan.......wish me luck! ;)

Seam Finishes
French Seam
Regular Clean-Finished Seam
Flat-Felled Seam
Zigzag-Finished Seam
So I took my second sewing class last night and learned different seam finishes. There was one that I have seen I was wanting to learn and what do ya know they taught us in class last night. I am really enjoying my classes and can not wait to have some free time to try some of these techniques out.

Better Late Than Never.......

My mom bought me my first sewing machine for my 32nd birthday. Now the last time I sewed before my birthday was when I was 15 and my grandma helped and tried to teach my to sew my first pair of pants. It was successful and I wore those pants until one day they fell apart in the washer. I have not sewn since then.
I got my machine and had a friend from the ward come help me figure out how to use it. That was a great help and off I went. My first few projects turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. Well I began to search the internet for tutorials and began to self teach. Then I ran across some terms I was NOT familiar with things like "stitch in the ditch", and other crazy sewing terms that I could not quite get so I decided to take some sewing classes at a place here in Denver called Fancy Tiger. The first class I took was sewing 101 and it was useful to help me get to know my machine a bit better. My second class was last night and it was seam techniques I did not know there were SO many! It was a great class and I am excited for my other classes.
SO I noticed I have been stuck sewing things I am "comfortable" sewing and I want to do more. I thought I would create this blog write about my sewing classes and my adventures in sewing and trying new things. So here goes!!!!
Included are some pictures of some seaming techniques I learned in my class and a bag I recently made as a Christmas present.
